Are the crosses in the FUPC walkway really crosses? That is, were they built with an intention to convey the symbol of the cross?
Sometimes we may get meaning from something that was not intended to communicate that meaning. That may be the case here. However, we can clearly see here the Greek cross, repeated all along the walkway in the beautiful design of the roof.
The Greek cross has arms of equal length, unlike the more familiar Latin cross which has a vertical longer arm and a shorter horizontal arm. This form of the cross is more popular in Eastern Orthodox churches, but is found in Western Christian art as well.
For some people, the Greek cross has an additional meaning. The even arms suggest reaching out to the four corners of the earth, spreading the gospel in all directions. And the Greek cross still represents Christ’s sacrifice and the victory of resurrection.
