Giving to your church

By generous giving of our time, talents, and treasure (financial resources), members and friends of First United Presbyterian Church reflect the generous self-giving that God showed us in Jesus Christ.  As we give freely and joyfully of ourselves, we experience the joy and fulfillment of seeking God’s kingdom first, and of putting the needs of others before our own needs and wants.

We encourage each member to commit to three types of giving:

Annual Giving: Members support the day to day costs of our ongoing ministries (outreach, mission, worship, caregiving, leadership, fellowship, service, spiritual growth, etc.) by pledging a percentage of our annual income to support God’s work through the church. See the Annual Giving page for information about pledging.  If you are led to give, but do not feel ready to make a pledge, all gifts are welcome and appreciated!  Please see the many ways to give listed below.

Special Giving:  Most of us are aware of special needs in the world that we’d like to address with additional designated financial gifts.  Examples might be disaster relief, hunger, poverty, social justice, or local homelessness.  While a portion of your annual giving already goes to meet these needs, most members also give specific gifts over and above their annual pledge several times a year, to meet specific needs that touch their hearts.  Examples of this are gifts to the The PC(USA)’s four church-wide Special Offerings and gifts to the Individual Assistance Fund.

Legacy Giving: It is important for each of us to give to sustain the future ministry of First United Presbyterian Church, in addition to our annual and special giving to meet present needs.  We are benefitting now from generous legacy gifts given in previous decades, and our legacy gifts are a way of “paying it forward.” One especially helpful approach to legacy giving is to include an amount in your will that will continue your pledge to the annual budget for one or several years.  See the Legacy Giving page for more information about other legacy giving options.
