The Olan Mills Cross

Back in the days when we had physical church directories, they were sometimes produced by Olan Mills, a chain of commercial photographers. This company produced church directories from 1932 to 2019, and families could have their family portraits taken along with the photos for the directory. One year, they used the photos of all the church members to create this image of the church, with the cross on the sanctuary roof.

You have to see it in person to get the full effect. When you look very closely, you can see the faces of church members, sorted by color and placed into a patchwork representation of the church.

It’s upstairs in the Calvin building, in the corner classroom. These rooms are used for Sunday School classes, Chinese School, meetings, and many more purposes.

When you come to Fellowship Hall for brunch on Easter Sunday, take a moment to go check out this remarkable picture!
