For this Lent’s theme of “Lift High the Cross,” we have been celebrating all the crosses at FUPC. Today, Jan wore this cross-bedecked Lenten vestment — possibly for the last time. She mentioned this after the Palm Sunday sermon, clearly moved by the thought.

Jan Butin, alongside her husband Phil Butin, has been pastor at First United Presbyterian since 2010. As pastors, they shepherded the congregation through development of La Comunidad Presbyterian Hispana, outreach with people who have experienced substance abuse, certification as an Earth Care Congregation of PCUSA, the tumultuous years of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the growth of the Honduras Mission, among other important events and initiatives.

Jan and Phil will be retiring this summer, Jan leaves FUPC with a strong appreciation for her compassion and caring, as well as her leadership and meaningful preaching.
