Holy Week begins with the joy of Palm Sunday on March 24. We remember in worship how Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowds gathered, laid down their coats and chanted “Hosanna! Hossanna! We praise you!” During the late service on Palm Sunday, there will be a Palm Parade for children to participate in.
On Maundy Thursday (March 28), we remember the last supper that Jesus shared with his disciples before he was betrayed. There will be a worship service in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm. During the service, there will be the opportunity to gather around the Lord’s table for communion. It is the Lord’s table, so all are welcome.
On Good Friday (March 29), there will be a Tenebrae service in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm. The suffering and death of Christ will be commemorated with the gradual extinction of candles and darkening of the sanctuary during the service.
Holy Week ends with the joy of Easter Morning when we rejoice that Christ has risen! On Easter Sunday (March 31) the early service (8:30 am) will be held outside and there will be special music presented by our choral interns. Between the worship services, there will be two special events. From 9:15 am to 10:30 am, there will be an Easter Covered Dish Brunch in Fellowship Hall. Please bring your favorite breakfast or brunch food to share. At 10:00 am there will be an Easter Morning Children’s Gathering in Upper Witherspoon led by Ms. Kristi. The children will hear the Easter Story and participate in an Easter Egg Find. The late service (11:00 am) will feature music presented by our choir, our handbell choir and a brass ensemble. All are invited to come forward to sing the Hallelujah Chorus with the choir at the conclusion of the service.
We hope you will join us for as many of these events as you can. If you have any questions, please call the church office at 442-4411. If you would like to subscribe to our weekly email newsletter, please click here.
