AR Presbytery Honduras Mission Mid-Trip Update

Sixteen representatives from the Presbytery of Arkansas are spending Spring Break in Honduras. They are working alongside the Presbytery of Honduras on several projects and building relationships with our partners in Christ.

The group is staying at Villa de Garcia, a conference center operated by the Presbyterian Women of Honduras. Their main project is helping construct a meeting and office space for the Presbytery of Honduras at the center. Throughout the week, they are also learning more about Honduras and the challenges facing our Honduran brothers and sisters.

On Monday, the group began work on the construction project. On Tuesday, they visited CHISPA, a nonprofit organization that promotes literacy and supports the creation of school libraries in Honduras. During the visit, they delivered 150 books donated by First Presbyterian Church in Springdale. Later that day, some members of the group learned to make Nacatamales, a kind of tamale, Honduras style.

Wednesday was a day of travel and discovery. The group first visited El Sute, where they saw a Living Waters of the World water purification system powered by Solar Under the Sun panels. It was a great opportunity to refill their water bottles! After spending time with church members there, they traveled by four-wheel-drive vehicles to El Horno, a coffee farm community with more than 70 solar installations.

Traveling to El Horno

In El Horno, the group shared lunch and visited a rural school. The school has two classrooms, two teachers, and 110 students in grades one through six. The team delivered activity books and new soccer balls for the students. They also met Elder, the pastor of the El Horno church, and enjoyed learning more about the community.
