PNC Nomination

The Session has authorized the start of the process to elect a Pastor Nominating Committee by asking the Nominating Committee to begin gathering names for consideration to serve. Section G-2.0802 reads “The session shall call a congregational meeting to elect a pastor nominating committee that shall be representative of the whole congregation. The committee’s duty shall be to nominate a pastor for election by the congregation.”

The Nominating Committee will be asked to gather names for consideration. At our April Session Meeting (April 13) the session will determine the number of people to serve on the PNC and the group that will be tasked with prayerfully discerning from the names submitted and make phone calls to determine interest and availability to serve. When a slate has been finalized the session will call a congregational meeting to elect the Pastor Nominating Committee.

The following qualities are needed to serve on the Pastor Nominating Committee:

Members should be both actively involved in the life of the church and also able to assume this additional responsibility. The time commitment will run for several months and possibly a year or longer.
Members must be willing to support the denomination’s process for calling new pastors and work with the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry.
The work of the committee must be kept absolutely confidential, even from family members.
Members should understand that they will be involved in a calling process where members seek to discern God’s call for new leadership, rather than simply a hiring process.
Members must be willing to work toward consensus, putting the best interests of the congregation over personal interests.
