Because we are a people created in the image of God and redeemed in Jesus Christ, everything we do is a grateful response to God.
Our Stewardship Campaign theme, "Renewed in the Spirit - Step In & Step Up" simply means that we are asking those of you who are current
tithers to renew your financial commitment to God and this church and to prayerfully consider "stepping up" the percentage of your
gift - by whatever amount you are able. For those of you who have not been
tithing or who are new to the congregation, we are asking you to "step in" and consider
supporting our ministry needs, giving whatever amount God lays on your heart.
The Giving Chart below can help you consider how to respond to this challenge. It is only a guideline. We are confident that if each member responds to this challenge, then we will provide all of the financial resources needed to support our ministries in 2009.

We believe that God has good things in store for us. May we listen and serve faithfully, for truly, Faithfulness Sustains the Generations.
What Does Stewardship Have To Do With Money?
The best answer to that question is both nothing and everything. Stewardship is
first and foremost about our response to what God has done for us. God's
provision for our needs prompts our grateful thanksgiving. God calls us into the
shared ministries in this church. These shared ministries have needs, and each of
us should look at how we can – ever more faithfully – support Christ’s church
through our stewardship of time, talents, energy and, yes, money.
The Financial Offerings We Bring DO NOT Undergird a Budget.
They DO Support Our Shared Ministries
Our budget is a detailed expression of what we believe
is necessary to support the ministries of the First United
Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
One helpful way to look at the financial needs of the
church is to examine our ministry priorities. In doing
this, it is then possible to say we engage in five ministries
at this church:
- Worship
- Outreach to Fayetteville and Beyond
- Evangelism
- Fellowship In and Care of the Congregation
- Education/Nurture
This year we have provided you with a “narrative
budget” that divides our annual budget into ministry
needs, versus line item expenditures, in order that you
may more fully understand what your donation
supports.
Here’s an example of how this was done: We took each
of the pastors' compensations and divided them according
to how they spent their time between these five areas. We
then incorporated that percentage of expenditure into
the cost of each ministry. Likewise, all of the other
budget line items support one or more of these shared
ministries as well, and were also divided accordingly.
Following is an estimate, by ministry, of the financial needs for each area
during the coming year:
FIRST UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
MINISTRY NEEDS FOR 2009
Worship $221,967 (22.2% of budget)
At the heart of our Christian faith and life is the worship of God.
In our regular Sunday worship and in special worship activities,
we come together to offer God our praise and thanksgiving. This
is the foremost area of pastoral leadership, and it is supported
by our wonderful choir and music leadership, the support staff
and by our utilities. Our lives are blessed and our faith grows as
we gather around God’s word, font and table.
Outreach Programs $248,912 (24.9% of budget)
Our support of Christ’s church at work in Fayetteville, America
and around the world in essence allows us to touch people we
will likely never see. This is part of our heritage as Presbyterians
and our calling as Christians. The gospel is shared, people are
fed, conflicts are resolved, and hope is restored as we empower
others to service “after the example of Jesus Christ.”
Evangelism $25,387 (2.5% of budget)
This faith community exists within the larger community of
Fayetteville and we invite people to join us in our shared
ministries. We reflect God’s love and grace, given so freely to
us, when we support other children of God. In our hospitality
and our outreach others see Jesus Christ at work in our lives.
Congregational Care $162,916 (16.3% of budget)
In this past year we have focused a lot of time and energy in
further strengthening one of the foundations of the church – our
care for each other. In small groups and community gatherings
we lift each other up in times of crisis and we celebrate life
together in our fellowship. Part of what God intends for us to
be is an extended family of love and support for each other.
Education/Nurture $339,728 (34% of budget)
The good news of Jesus Christ is shared through our educational ministries in a
full range of classes and programs for children, youth and adults. Beyond Sunday
morning, educational opportunities exist for youth, women’s organizations,
church officers and through other special class offerings. The total financial
support needed to enable our mission and programs for 2009 is approximately
$998,910, including our education and outreach through First School.
This “narrative budget” is a simple way to look at how our stewardship of what
God has given us is used faithfully and effectively. Please give prayerful
consideration to how you may be faithful and effective in the stewardship of
your time, talents, energy and monetary gifts to your church.-Your Stewardship Committee & Session
