2017 Adult Classes

Three adult education classes are currently offered. Please consider attending a class to enrich your spiritual growth.

The Present Word, led by Dennis Brewer and Jane Steinkraus, will explore how to join in praise of God’s creative power and ongoing care for creation through the Psalms. This class meets in Calvin 203.

The Open Door Class, led by Carol Van Scyoc will meet in Calvin 202. We are studying the book, All the Places to Go… How Will You Know, by best-selling author John Ortberg. This class will explore how to:
Recognize divine opportunities in daily life
Walk through open doors with confidence
Overcome the fear of missing out or of making the wrong choice

Are you ready for an adventure?

A Book-Based Class based on The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis will be led by Derrik Olsen and Rev. Phil Butin, in Calvin 201. This class will be centered around open sharing and discussion of the issues of life and death, heaven and hell, grace and judgment, and personal accountability for the lives we live. The book is an imaginative fantasy about a bus trip from hell to heaven, and is a delightful read. Our hope is that as we explore this book, it will trigger various thoughtful discussions and sharing about our lives, faith, and sense of God’s grace and presence every day in this life. If you would like more information about the class or the book, please visit the adult education page of the FUPC website or contact Phil Butin ( or 442-4411). If you would like us to order a copy of the book for you, the cost is $10.
