First United Presbyterian Church is committed to opening our eyes and hearts to the needs of our neighbors, whether that neighbor lives in the house next door, in the neighborhood of a surrounding town, or in a country on the other side of the world. We do this through the ministries of the PCUSA, but we are also committed to using our own hands in service. It is by serving as Christ would serve that our eyes and hearts are open to seeing the face of Christ in all people.
FUPC has committed itself to two mission trips per year: one to continue our ministry through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program, building homes in the New Orleans/Mississippi Gulf Coast region following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005; and the other to the Presbytery of Lacandon in Chiapas, Mexico, the sister Presbytery of the Presbytery of Arkansas. It is the hope of FUPC that we will be able to expand the Synod of the Sun’s “Solar Under the Sun” program into Chiapas, and combine our mission trip with another mission project of FUPC, the Presbytery of Arkansas, and the Synod of the Sun.
First United Presbyterian Church also supports other mission and ministries that have a global context, including Gideons International, Habitat for Humanity, and Heifer International, among others.
